Have You Ever Wondered, Do Those Life Hacks Actually Work?

Do you ever wonder about stuff?  I wonder about stuff.  Like those life hacks that I have been inundated with online.  They sound really helpful!  I pin them on Pinterest, share them on Facebook, but I never actually try them.  Really what I wanted was to ask around until I found someone that had tested all this stuff to see if any of it actually worked.  Thank goodness for John Green.  I like John Green.  He’s a funny guy.  He also writes some amazing books!

He tested 30 life hacks found online.  Some of the ones that I was sure would work, nope.  Fail.  Others I was sure were pure fiction, actually work pretty well.  Plus, I don’t think I can ever look at Doritos the same way again…although, I may take them camping with me.  Just in case of an emergency.

Do you have any life hacks that you’ve tried?  Did they work?  Did they fail?  Is there video!?!?!  These are things that I need to know!

It Is That Time of Year, Candy…A Few Fun Facts

Have I mentioned lately that I think John Green is awesome?  Well, I think it has just been far to long since I’ve made that announcement.  He is the author of The Fault in Our Stars which I read a while back and reviewed here.  This is being turned into a movie, which I am very excited to see.  I’ve been following @JohnGreen on Twitter and he’s been posting updates and pictures from the set…awesomeness.

Today is not about that, however.  Today is about Mental Floss on YouTube.  You just get cool facts about all kind of things, and I am a fan of useless knowledge. (Is it really useless?  It makes you really good at trivia games if nothing else.)  Today…candy.  Halloween is less than a week away, after all.  Enjoy!

The Mohawk Guy – Bobak Ferdowsi

I mentioned this guy in my post about The Nerdist.  His name is Bobak Ferdowsi, and he became famous during the Mars Curiosity landing.  Did he become well-known for his astounding mind?  Well, no, it was his hair that grabbed the attention of a nation. However, it managed to do something awesome, it made science cool.  At Comic-Con San Diego 2013 NASA JPL came to Nerd HQ to do a panel.

Nerd HQ is created by Zachary Levi and proceeds from the ticket sales go to benefit Operation Smile, an international children’s charity dedicated children’s smiles.  They did a lot of great panels this year.  They even did a screening in PetCo field, of Serenity with Nathan Fillion…(totally shiny!)From Joss Whedon to Steven Moffat and everyone in between.

Here’s an interview he did with Nerd HQ’s Allison Haislip.

If you have some time you can watch the whole panel here.

They Built a Robot!

More Geek Week videos!  Can you tell, I’m loving this? I never would have found this without the awesomeness that is The Nerdist Podcast with Christ Hardwick, Matt Mira and Jonah Ray.

WIRED built a giant robot mech in partnership with YouTube, Stan Winston School and Legacy Effects. And now you get to see how we did it. From design to tech, prototype to insanely detailed finished product, you’ll find out how to build your very own. Just bring a lot of friends and a ton of parts.

A Long Walk Off A Short Pier…Into A Ball Pit

Another Geek Week Video coming your way!  This one is from Head Squeeze.  They give you the low down on the science behind the amazing 9qnn5my52akyrly2kj98_biggerfall that a free runner makes at the British Museum into a ball pit (No, not a pit bull, a ball pit.  I really don’t know why I have a fascination with these things.  Okay, maybe I do.)  60,000 multi-colored plastic balls in a pit…how can you resist?  When Patrick Stewart has a picture of himself in a ball pit…well, your argument is invalid.  Captain Picard says, “Make it so!”

Well, I could probably resist making the big jump that Blue did…maybe…probably…I would have been tempted just a little bit.  Resistance is futile.  Definitely don’t try this at home, kids.

Would you have been tempted too?

I Think He Created an Army

Tom Hiddleston’s Loki from Thor and The Avengers has quickly become one of the most loved villains in recent history.  Mr. Hiddleston recently appeared as Loki at this year’s San Diego Comic Con to introduce the new trailer for Thor 2: The Dark World. This is what happened…

Seriously, who can resist?

Who is your favorite villain?

Really, I Need to Stop Searching for Zombies on the Internet….

So, ya’ll remember that post I did not too long ago, World War Z..Just Another Zombie Movie?  Well, the movie started me on a…zombie…frenzy?  Spree?  Well, a zombie something anyway. Technically, I guess it all began with the BBC mini-series, In the Flesh that aired just before World War Z was released in theaters.  Then, as soon as I wrote that post, I went out and bought Laurell K. Hamilton’s Affliction.  Hint: This book has zombies.  Read a bit about LKH and her Anita Blake: Vampire Hunter series in Affliction:The Book That Consumed Two Days of My Life…When’s the Next One?.  I also started watching The Walking Dead.  Now, I find this older vlogbrothers video….I Am Legend is a book?!? Add another to my  literary “grocery list”.  So, really, I just need to stop searching for zombie stuff on Google….
