So, I completely convinced myself that I’d read a book that I haven’t. Yeah, it happened. How did I discover this? Well, I got the movie on Netflix. The Hitchhiker’s Guide to the Galaxy of all things! I was certain that I’d already read this novel by Douglas Adams, but as the movie was rolling along a thought came to me. I had no idea what came next.
Now before you go getting the wrong idea here, (I’m not sure what the right idea actually is.) I knew so many little details! Maybe that’s why I thought I’d read it? “So long and thanks for all the fish,” “Don’t forget your towel”, “42”, there was a fair amount of detailed knowledge floating around in my brain. How had I not read the book!?! I ordered the movie because I knew the book was so good. (Ha!)

The movie adaptation features an outstanding cast. With people like Martin Freeman, Sam Rockwell, Mos Def, Zooey Deschanel and Helen Mirren, how could I go wrong? Plus there are characters voiced by Stephen Fry, Alan Rickman and Mark Gatiss! Throw in Bill Nighy and I was sold! You already know that I admire Martin Freeman from my Sherlock rave. So, I’m doing what I do with any talented actors I come across. I pull them up on IMDB and then proceed to order just about everything they’ve done on Netflix. Everyone does that…right? Anyway. Well, the DVD starts playing and I’m practically singing along. After that it wasn’t long until I realized I didn’t know the story, at all…oh, wow. How did I think I’d read this? This isn’t a plot you just…forget.
The point isn’t my delusion. The point is, I really enjoyed this movie. The cast is amazing. They have some great comedic timing, and the sets were just fantastic. I found myself really wanting to watch it again over the weekend, but I’d already mailed the disc back to Netflix. Hmmm….this one may have to be added to the permanent collection.
Now don’t get all excited. I am going to read the book. Thanks to a certain friend who lent it to me, it is at this very moment sitting on my coffee table to be read at the earliest opportunity. Now if I could just find a little free time…
So long, and thanks for all the fish,
Jessica
