Ah, December 1st

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar

Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar

Today, my friends, promises to be a good day.  I awoke to a world covered in frost, hopefully killing all those allergy inducing plants, a work schedule telling me I have until 10:30am before work calls, and my Lego Star Wars Advent Calendar.  In the weeks since I received it for my birthday, it’s sat on my table calling my name, but I’ve managed to resist its siren call until the appointed day.  Today is that day.  December 1st.

IMG_2514No, I am not between the ages of six and fourteen.  However, my enthusiasm is undimmed. This morning, I eagerly cleared a place on my book case, released the top of the box to create a backdrop for my new Lego creations, opened that door and built…something.

IMG_2515I don’t know what it is, actually.  A speeder?  Maybe?  I have no idea.  If you have a thought, let me know, because on this one, I’m clueless. (Try and restrain your hilarity there folks.)  It doesn’t matter that I don’t know what it is, it was still fun.

What?  Will you be treated to daily pictures of the Lego creations?  Well, who would I be to deprive you of such joy.  Of course I will!

‘Til next time,

Jessica

P.S. The more I look at this thing,  the less I know what it is, except it flies…right?

These Are Definitely The Droids You’re Looking For

So, how may of you out there have just decided to let J.J. Abrams take all your money?  Because, after this trailer, I was ready to just go ahead and pre-order my tickets for Star Wars:The Force Awakens.  The only thing stopping me is not knowing the release date of the Sherlock Christmas Special.  Yes, I admit it.  One of the only things stopping me from making sure I’m one of the first people to see Star Wars Episode VII is making sure I see Benedict Cumberbatch, Martin Freeman and cast decked out and working their Sherlock-y magic in 1890’s London.  However, getting a glimpse of R2-D2 made my fingers itchy for pre-ordering those tickets.  (He always was my favorite.)

‘Til next time,

Want To Be In Star Wars VII?

I saw this video today, and I just had to share. How would you like to go to London and actually be in the next Star Wars movie? Hang out with the cast…like the cast. I’m wondering does that mean Harrison Ford and Carrie Fischer or does that mean minor characters?

Because meeting Han Solo and Indiana Jones…those characters are integral to my childhood. Who am I kidding? When I was a kid I didn’t want to be Cinderella or Sleeping Beauty. If I was going to be a princess it was going to be Princess Leia.  (Do I want to know if there are pictures to prove this? There was an awesome T-shirt I remember though…)

R2D2-cake-panMy mom used to decorate beautiful cakes, and when I was a kid she usually made my birthday cake herself.  The year I asked for a Star Wars cake, she made me R2D2.  (Now, I wish I had pictures of that birthday party.)  It was absolutely amazing, and I don’t even want to think about how long she spent decorating that sucker. (I have a pretty awesome mom.)  I do remember being reluctant to actually eat it because it looked so incredible. (However, I was a kid.  The reluctance didn’t last long!)

R-496283-1396544501-7289fisherpriceGrowing up we had The Empire Strikes Back, get this, on vinyl.  This wasn’t just the soundtrack either, it was the story with dialogue and music.  My sister and I (mostly just me) would sit in front of either my FischerPrice record player or, if we were lucky, my parents’ turntable with the records playing and the cover open to see the stills from the movie. (Yes, this was even before VHS.  No, I don’t want to talk about how old that makes me.)

Now that I’ve taken a trip through my childhood, here’s the best part of this contest J. J. Abrams is talking about. It is all done through Omaze as Star Wars: Force for Change to benefit UNICEF.  You know UNICEF, right?  The organization dedicated to saving kids through providing things like:

  • Lifesaving vaccines and insecticide-treated bed nets

  • Emergency relief following natural disasters

  • Educational opportunities and School-in-a-Box kits

  • And much more (www.unicefusa.org)

To enter, just go to Omaze (www.omaze.com/starwars) and there’s a big “Enter to Win” button.  There are different levels of entries and rewards that go along with each level.  Now to check my budget…

May the force be with you.
